Salute Her UK

Salute Her UK aims to transform the lives of women in the Armed Forces, Veterans and Women At Sea, their families and communities so that they can thrive and prosper.

Salute Her UK
‘52% of the 100 women interviewed reported they had been sexually assaulted whist serving.’

Salute Her UK provides a wide range of services, including trauma informed therapy to support women in the armed forces and veterans with lived experience of sexual assault and associated trauma.

They regularly consult with women in the Armed Forces, Veterans and Women At Sea so that their services are needs led and person centred. They conduct research, share best practice, inform and educate, raise awareness, deliver training and reach out to those in need.

Problem

Like every charity, Salute Her UK needs funding to survive. They can’t just rely on donations from the public. They need to be constantly be bidding for funding from grants and other sources.

There are big challenges, especially for small charities when it comes to bidding. It’s time consuming and often takes your best people away from the one thing you want to be spending time on: supporting the community you serve.

Salute Her UK is no exception. One Friday morning we got an email from Paula Edwards, the CEO, who was in a difficult situation. She had less than 4 days to submit an important bid but was struggling for time as she was also busy supporting women with immediate and urgent needs.

Her simple question to us was “How can your AI tool help me?”

Solution

Within an hour of Paula’s email, we’d started work. We asked her to send over the following:

  • The tender documentation for the bid she was writing so that we could ensure we were answering the questions
  • All the previous bids Salute Her had written, even if they were unsuccessful because they contained important information such as case studies
  • All marketing materials such as PDFs of case studies, brochures, one-pages, foldouts…anything the might contain useful information about the orgainsation and the work they are doing
  • Any documentation they thought might be important to writing a winning bid such as any ‘technical’ documentation, reports, research, etc.
  • Brand guidelines or style guide (i.e. tone of voice and style for Salute Her)

We got back hundreds of document, PDFs, images and reports. A proper ‘brain dump’ of material.

By Friday afternoon we’d created a simple AI BidWriter Assistant to help Paula with her bid. We knew it wasn’t prefect as we didn’t have the time to train and tune the tool as we normally would, but we hoped it was good enough.

Outcome

We didn’t have long to wait to find out.

On Sunday night we got this message, “This has literally saved me hours and I have been able to help more of my women due to time saving.”

Here’s what Paula said to another charity in the sector, “I don’t have the words to describe how amazing this tool is. It saved me days.”

We were glad to be able to help a great charity at such short notice.
